The Beast With a Thousand Teeth (20th Century Fairy Tales)
Published in Hardcover by Peter Bedrick Books (February, 1994)
Authors: Terry Jones and Michael Foreman
Average review score:

It's simply delightful!
Michael Foreman's whispy watercolours are the perfect accent to these lovely little stories written by Terry Jones (Former member of Monty Python) They are also perfect for reading aloud to a child, and there is even a nice little moral for each tale. The Fishy story teaches you not to be full of yourself, and the Beastie story teaches children not to eat too much sugar (among other things) You may be surprised to find that Terry Jones is in fact an excellent writer of Childrend's stories, and Of course Foreman's illustrations are always beautiful. I would recommend this book to anyone who has young children, or someone that simply loves Fairy Tales or whimsical art. (Like myself)

Become A Millionaire or Make A comfortable Living

Learn essential information before, not after you invest
Due to the less than stellar performance of the stock market over the past year or so, I purchased this book to help me understand then decide whether or not to further diversify my existing portfolio by investing/diversifying into the real estate market. I've found the book to be both clear and easy to understand yet filled with tons of vitally important details and examples and real life situations gathered through years of experience that distill what might otherwise be only theory and lofty guidance down to just plain practical advice. This includes filling in forms, doing calcuations and looking analytically through the decision making steps in a variety of related areas and processes. If you are like me, I want to know as much as I can about a potential financial investment and how to maximize it before, not after I make it or when its already too late. Although I'm not quite sure yet whether to invest in real estate endevors or not, this book will undoubtedly reduce the "I didn't know what I didn't know" syndrome, so that that the decision I will eventually make will be both the best one for me and increase the chances for successful profitability, should I decide to go ahead and do so. In addition, it seems to me that Become a Millionaire's information could also be invaluable to many others including first time homebuyers, potential renters, and a variety of real estate professionals like agents, realtors and brokers. Thank you Carl for helping me to more fully understand this extremely complex marketplace.

--Hal is sixteen and has started a journal to put his sometimes confusing thoughts down on paper: he doesn't believe in anything, including belief, but how can he not believe in belief if he has to believe to do it? Hal's biggest problem besides the belief confusion is Zack, his alter ego and imaginary friend who lives in his mind and replies to all of his questions. Wanting to get rid of Zack, Hal starts a science fiction story featuring Zack as the main character, aboard a ship heading deeper and deeper into outer space. Will this get rid of Zack or does Hal need Zack more than he thinks? --The confusing thoughts of a teenager are brilliantly displayed in this great and funny book. --Marisa

Between Black Women: Listening With the Third Ear

Listen Black Women!!!!!!!
I would love to own this book but I can't afford due to my very tight budget. If all the black women in the world read this book it would be like rediscovering themselves. I loved this book and thats why I had to look it up and review it. I also shared it with some friends in school. I located this book in the school library at Eastern Michgan University. I really like the styles that she uses to write. I would like to read other things that she write but again, I do have a budget to maintain. I too want to be a writer but I'm only good at poetry and I don't think my book would be good. I hope that Miss Jones gets to read my review because she is very dear to me at this moment and she has made a big impact on my life these pass few days and may GOD bless her for doing so. Thank you for allowing me to read your book and be the first to review it too. The pleasure was all mines.

Beyond Good & Evil
Published in Paperback by Fifth World Resources (01 December, 1999)
Author: Jean Jones

POET AS MAGICIAN
Given his Indonesian heritage and in-depth philosophical studies, it's not surprising that North Carolina writer Jean Jones pulls strands from many different mythologies and thought systems, weaving them together to suit his poetic purpose. Egyptian, Buddhist, Hindu, and Christian themes and figures meld and coalesce in these pages. As he blends them, Jean reminds readers of the rich variations of spiritual belief and, at the same time, the unifying principles of mystery and faith. The poems build in intensity as the reader progresses through the collection. In the last third, the pieces center on the death of the poet's father, William Jones, in a nursing home. No other contemporary poet is so successful at revealing the transcendent through everyday experiences. Jean leads his readers to revelations, to cosmic insights, which are still rooted in the 'here-and-now.' But I don't want you to think his poems are dismally 'heavy'; the mood is ultimately playful: we are here in this world to enjoy ourselves, to live our lives to the fullest, and to help others as best as we can.

Bible Stories: God at Work With Man
Published in Hardcover by Abingdon Press (August, 1973)
Author: Mary Alice Jones
Average review score:

About This Book...from the inside of the book
The Bible is about God. It tells of God's acts in nature and in the lives of men and of people and of nations. It tells about how persons responded to God.

This book has been written to help boys and girls to know something about how God has worked among men and about how persons have responded to God. It begins with God's work in creating the world. Then it tells about some of the men and women who worked with God.

There is Abraham, with whom God worked to plan a special people to make his way known. There is Joseph, who saved people from starvation. There is Moses, who rescued the special people from slavery and gave them God's laws. There is David, who made the special people into a nation. There is Amos, who called the people from disobedience to their God. There is Josiah, who taught the people to listen to the word of God found in old writing which had been lost.

This book tells about God's greatest act in sending Jesus to men. There is Mary, who was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. There is Jesus himself, who lived among men showing them how God cares about them and what God plans for man to be. There is Peter, a follower of Jesus, who told men that Jesus would be with them always. There is Dorcas, a follower of Jesus, who cared about others. There is Paul, who traveled to many lands teaching people about Jesus. There is Priscilla, who helped the Christian church to live and grow.

This book may help boys and girls to know that God did not work alone. He made persons his partners. He trusted them to work with him in his good plans for all people everywhere.

Bicycling the Backroads of Northwest Oregon
Published in Paperback by Mountaineers Books (June, 2003)
Authors: Philip N. Jones and Jean Henderson
Average review score:

Good road selection, accurate maps, and helpful text
Good road selection, accurate maps and helpful text make this book an excellent guide to road bicycling in northwest Oregon. The forty-five rides listed nearly all start within short distances from Portland, Corvallis, Salem, or Eugene. Ride distances range from a short 11 miler to the three day 177 mile Oregon Coaster loop. Each ride in the book includes a clear map of the ride, a cue sheet/mileage log, an elevation profile, and a few paragraphs of descriptive text. This book was extremely helpful in planning a recent ten day bicycling trip around northwest Oregon. While I did not, strictly speaking, ride any of the 45 rides in this book, the information in this book contributed greatly in road selection and understanding the terrain. For example, in the Mt. Hood area, if I had relied on the Delorme atlas, our route would have included several gravel roads. Jones and Henderson's book, however, shows which roads in the vicinity are gravel thereby helping us avoid them. For those of you fortunate enough to live in northwest Oregon, this book would be an excellent way to discover some new rides. For the non-Oregonian, the book can serve as an excellent resource in route-planning. As a sidelight, I would comment that I have yet to find a book published by The Mountaineers that has not been uniformly helpful, whether the content is bicyling or hiking.
